GOAL
To empower teachers to proactively utilize teaching tools, technology and other aids to augment and facilitate the learning experience of their students.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Almost the entire working day will be spent in an urban school environment at the Sikhya learning centre facilities Mondays through Fridays.
EXTENT OF TRAVEL
Travel may be required using local buses or auto rikshaws as determined by project lead. Some trips by train or bus may also be required to New Delhi.

RURAL HEALTH & HYGIENE
AWARENESS PROJECT
GOAL
To provide awareness and education about various health issues related to rural populations through dissemination of information, as well as, communicating effective and practical preventative measures to improve health and hygiene.
OBJECTIVES

Document health issues that have a direct impact on the quality of life of rural communities, including resource availability, physician accessibility and challenges faced by medical personnel in delivering health care to local rural residents. |

To prepare effective means of communication in the form of presentations & participatory workshops on the identified health issues. |
ACTIVITIES

|
Understand the regional health issues affecting the local rural population and document and prioritize. |
|
•
|
Identify existing resources available (governmental and non-governmental) and understand the current communication delivery methods. |
|
•

Determine the most efficient and effective delivery of information and prepare/obtain appropriate materials in consultation with project lead. |

Prepare and implement presentations / participatory workshops. |

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Project work will be divided between field work around the Ropar area, up to 40 Km from the City (Chandigarh). Research and admin work in an office setting in the city or dispensary.
EXTENT OF TRAVEL
Will require travel by bus/auto/foot to block dispensary headquarters and surrounding villages, as well as, local Chandigarh area.

RURAL SPORTS PROJECT
2 Volunteers
GOAL
To utilize recreational activity in rural Punjab as a vehicle to promote health & physical fitness, self esteem development and offer peer mentorship to rural children and youth.
OBJECTIVES
Organize after-school sports teams around villages within the Ropar district for children aged 8 to 12, and utilize coaching time to address various issues affecting rural youth at the individual and community level.
ACTIVITIES

Mastery over the Punjabi language: written and spoken |

Work with local coaches to identify & train rural youth from at least 6 villages in specific sports activities |

Liaise with villagers to initiate program and mark out play areas for participants |

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Project work will be divided between the city and villages around Ropar. You will have to utilize existing open spaces in and around a given village for your play activities. These may contain cow dung, small bushes and flies & mosquitoes.
EXTENT OF TRAVEL
Extensive travel will be required through villages within a 40 Km radius of Chandigarh by bus, auto rikshaw and foot. Night travel and overnight stays in a village may be required on certain occasions.

SMALL SCALE AGRI-ENTERPRISE DEVELOPMENT
GOAL
To encourage farmers with small/moderate landholdings to participate in small scale progressive and environmentally conscious agri-enterprises requiring low inputs while generating produce with greater income potential.
OBJECTIVES

Utilize a local farmer’s land and work with him to identify unemployed rural youth. |

Identify and facilitate provision of training for unemployed rural youth in progressive forms of agricultural activity to make the local farmer’s land productive. |

GOAL
To raise the awareness of progressive agricultural models in Punjab and identify viable markets for organic foods.
OBJECTIVES
To develop a presentation and train an identified local farmer to give local groups educational tours of his organic farm, and assist organic farmers in identifying avenues for organic certification and marketing of produce and value added goods.
ACTIVITIES

Work with a local organic farmer and assist him in developing an educational presentation in English & Punjabi about organic farming & the methods used on his farm to showcase his work to other farmers |
